They are more environmentally friendly, eliminating the need for chemical processing. Moreover, the images can be instantly displayed on a computer monitor shortly after capture.

Dental X-rays rank among the medical procedures with the lowest radiation doses. A standard examination, including four bitewing images, results in a radiation exposure of approximately 0.005 mSv. This level is lower than the natural background radiation received in a single day and is comparable to the radiation one would encounter during a brief airplane journey of about 1 to 2 hours.
